Lu Xiangyang was working at the People's Bank of China in 1995 when he teamed up with his cousin Wang Chuanfu to launch battery and auto maker BYD.

Lu runs his own investment firm, Youngy Investment Holding Group.

Wang, BYD's chairman, and Lu, the vice chairman, are both billionaires today from their holdings in the company.
